What will I get from this course?

2022 could be the year you write that novel, with the support of local writers Claire Fuller and Judith Heneghan!  This 20-week course, taught jointly by Claire and Judith, will explore the various key elements of novel writing, from plot to character to voice – and much more.

If you are a dedicated reader and determined to write something of your own, this could could be your launch-pad!

As the course progresses you will be expected to work on your project and present excerpts.

Peer support will be as important on the course as input/guidance from the tutors.

Claire Fuller

Claire is the author of four novels. Her most recent, Unsettled Ground, is shortlisted for the Women’s Prize for Fiction, while her first, Our Endless Numbered Days won the Desmond Elliott Prize. Her books have been translated into 18 languages. Claire writes full time and has taught creative writing on many short courses.

Judith Heneghan

Judith is a writer and senior lecturer in Creative Writing at the University of Winchester. She has written extensively for young readers, and her first novel for adults, Snegurochka, was shortlisted for the Edward Stanford travel writing awards.

The course last for 20 weeks, not including holidays.

Both tutors will be present at the first and last sessions.

The course dates are 12th, 19th, 26th Jan | 2nd, 9th, 16th Feb | half-term break | 2nd, 9th, 16th, 23rd, 30th Mar, 6th April | Easter break | 27th April, 4th, 11th, 18th, 25th May | half-term break | 8th, 15th, 22nd June.

Places are limited to 12.  There is a simple application process – please do not book and pay until you have been offered a place.

  • Something (anything you like) about yourself.  Max 500 words
  • An overview of your reading history and preferences.  Max 500 words
  • A piece of writing.  This can be anything you like, such as reflections on a place you have visited, a description of a person you know or admire, the first paragraph of a short story…  Max 750 words.

We will contact you within a week to confirm whether or not we are able to offer a place.  The application process is not a “test” but a way for us to ensure that all course participants are on the right wavelength.  If an early-bird discount is offered, it will be based on the date you submit your application.

 

 

Tell me more about this course...

The course starts in the new year and lasts for 20 weeks, with breaks for school holidays.  You will work with Claire and Judith as well as with your peers.  You need to commit to working on your particular project with a view to getting your manuscript completed.
