German is spoken as a first language by around 130 million people! Germany itself is Europe’s most successful country economically but it’s also an amazing tourist destination, much overlooked. Neighbouring Austria and Switzerland, where German is also spoken, are of course favourites for skiing and trekking. Basic German is not too difficult for English speakers. More work needs to be put in to master grammar, but you can do it!
